The Terai is a subtropical lowland aria with grasslands and swamps. Local people are mainly farmers. There are few factories and little employment and security. The consequences of the 2015 earthquake and the political and commercial problems with neighbouring India made it all even worse.
In the Mithila region women every year after the monsoon paint the walls of there mud dwellings with pictures and symbols from the Ramayana and daily life. It lies in the southeast of Nepal.
A bit more westward lies the Chitwan National Park, where the Sapana project is situated. It is an area with rivers, (sub)tropical forests and grasslands. It is the perfect place for spotting wild animals like rhinos, elephants and crocodiles. There are also tigers and bears and lots of exotic birds.
